Completed translation documents need to be finalized through the DTP process, where diagrams are added, table of contents and indexes are incorporated, and the document otherwise readied for immediate use.

At Kawamura International, we have our own in-house DTP experts who use highly specialized software to handle this work quickly and at reasonable prices.

Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office is one of the most widely-known software suites used for creating business documents, and is also used in translation companies in a wide range of DTP tasks.

Microsoft Office includes Word, used for creating everything from business documents to technical manuals; Excel, which in addition to spreadsheet and graphing functions, is used in creating numerical functions, pivot tables, and other statistical tasks; and PowerPoint, used in business proposals, training materials, and other documents where extra visual impact is needed. Today, Microsoft Office is one of the most frequently requested applications for DTP processing.

Through efforts such as the development of macro tools to automate continuous tasks, KI continually works to put more efficient processes into practice, responding to our clients’ need for faster, more accurate results.

Adobe FrameMaker

Adobe FrameMaker brings its greatest strengths to technical documentation, dealing with large-volume documents such as manuals, and documents which require cross-referencing between tables of contents, indexes, etc.

In English-speaking countries, it is often used for creating manuals, and is frequently employed in translation of manuals as well.

At KI, we have every version from 5.5 on, enabling us to easily handle DTP for manual translations even when they have been created in older versions of FrameMaker. We can also work with structured FrameMaker files.

Supported Versions: Windows versions 5.5, 6.0, 7.0, 7.2, and 8.0


Quark Xpress

Quark Xpress is a pioneer in high-end document production software for creating catalogs, newsletters, corporate brochures, etc. Since the software was once the de facto standard at printing companies, it is especially strong in the creation of documents for full-color printing and binding.

We support Quark Xpress for the Macintosh OS only.

Supported Versions: Macintosh versions 3.3, 4.0, and 6.0

Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign is, along with Quark Xpress, one of the leading high-end production software packages. In the translation field, the compatibility of its Windows version, and its strong compatibility with SDL TRADOS, make it easier to handle than Quark Xpress, and there is a growing move to replace Quark Xpress with InDesign for high-end document production, particularly among foreign-owned companies.

At KI, we have licensed the software since Version 1, and have a strong track record of using InDesign with TRADOS.

Supported Versions: Windows versions CS, CS2, and CS3; Macintosh versions CS, CS2, and CS3

Graphic Tools
Along with Microsoft Office, FrameMaker, Quark Xpress, InDesign, and other document creation software, we also handle creation and editing of diagrams, photo retouching, flow chart creation, and other tasks using image editing software.

We use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Visio, Corel Draw and other specialized graphics editing tools.
