Microsoft Office includes Word, used for creating everything from business documents to technical manuals; Excel, which in addition to spreadsheet and graphing functions, is used in creating numerical functions, pivot tables, and other statistical tasks; and PowerPoint, used in business proposals, training materials, and other documents where extra visual impact is needed. Quark Xpress is a pioneer in high-end document production software for creating catalogs, newsletters, corporate brochures, etc. Since the software was once the de facto standard at printing companies, it is especially strong in the creation of documents for full-color printing and binding.

In the translation field, the compatibility of its Windows version, and its strong compatibility with SDL TRADOS, make it easier to handle than Quark Xpress, and there is a growing move to replace Quark Xpress with InDesign for high-end document production, particularly among foreign-owned companies.
